Each ski area gets a rating out of 10 from five factors. Each factor is scored from 0 to 10 and weighted as shown. Availability and accommodation prices are measured for one week in the ski season, 16 Jan 2027 to 23 Jan 2027, for 4 guests with no budget limit. If you search for your own dates on the home page, they’re measured for your stay and group instead.
- Availability: 30%
- The share of indexed properties that are free that week (60% of this factor) and how many are free (40%). The count stops adding to the score at 30 free properties, so a big ski area doesn’t win on size alone. Currently demo data, not real availability.
- Accommodation cost: 20%
- The median price of the free properties for that week, compared with the other ski areas. The cheapest scores 10 and the most expensive 0. Prices are converted into euros with the European Central Bank’s reference rates. Currently demo prices, not real ones.
- Lift pass cost: 15%
- The published price of an adult 6-day pass for the whole ski area, compared with other ski areas’ prices for the same season. The cheapest scores 10 and the most expensive 0.
- Snow: 15%
- Estimated from altitude, not from snow reports or forecasts. The higher a ski area’s highest village, the more reliable its snow tends to be: 1,000 m or lower scores 0 and 2,200 m or higher scores 10. We plan to replace this with historical snow-depth data.
- Ski area size: 20%
- The kilometres of marked pistes the ski area publishes, across everything linked by lifts, so smaller ski areas rate lower. 20 km or less scores 0 and 500 km or more scores 10. Each doubling in size adds the same amount, so going from 50 to 100 km counts for as much as going from 250 to 500 km. Ski areas measure their pistes in different ways, so treat the figures as a guide.

Missing data and colours
- If a ski area has no data for a factor (for example no lift pass price yet), that factor’s weight is shared out among the others, and the ski area’s card shows a dash instead of a score for it. If the factors with data make up less than 50% of the weight, the ski area isn’t rated.
- If a ski area has properties listed but none suit your search (for example no chalets big enough for your group), its availability scores 0 rather than being left out, as there’s nothing you could book.
- A ski area can rate well on its other factors even when little is free. Its card then carries a warning when 3 or fewer properties are free, or under 10% of the suitable ones.
- Highly rated (green): 6.0 or more. Mixed (amber): 4.5 up to 6.0. Lower rated (red): below 4.5.
- Costs are compared between ski areas, so a rating shows how a ski area compares with the others here, not an absolute judgement. Sponsored or paid placement plays no part.
