What AlpFinder is
AlpFinder helps you choose where to go skiing in the Alps and where to stay once you’ve chosen. It covers 105 ski areas and 307 villages in France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria and Germany so far, side by side on one map, with the figures that usually take an evening of browsing resort websites to collect: lift pass prices, the size of each ski area and the altitude of its villages.
For each village it lists the places to stay recorded in official tourism directories, 12,987 so far, and links to booking sites so you can check availability and prices for your dates.
Where the information comes from
Everything shown is published data with its source credited: village locations and altitudes from national mapping and statistics agencies, places to stay from tourist-office and government registers, and lift pass prices and piste lengths from the ski areas’ own price lists and figures, or compilations of them. Each figure links to where it came from, and the data sources section lists them all with their licences.
Directories don’t list every place to stay, and how complete they are differs by country, so a village with few listings may still have plenty of accommodation. AlpFinder doesn’t yet have live availability or accommodation prices; the booking sites it links to do.
How ski areas are rated
Each ski area gets a rating out of 10 from its lift pass price, a snow estimate based on altitude, and its size. You can change how much each counts on the home page, and how the rating works explains every step. Or compare one figure at a time: lift pass prices, biggest ski areas and highest ski resorts.
How the site is paid for
Some links to booking sites are affiliate links: if you book after following one, the booking site may pay AlpFinder a commission, at no extra cost to you. They are always labelled, and they never affect a rating or a ranking. There is no paid placement and there are no sponsored listings. The affiliate disclosure has the details.
Your privacy
AlpFinder has no accounts, sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics or tracking. The privacy page explains what the server records and which other services your browser connects to.
