Affiliate links
AlpFinder links to booking sites, such as Booking.com and Vrbo, so you can check real availability and prices. We may make some of these links affiliate links in future. If you follow an affiliate link and then book, the booking site may pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way.
Every affiliate link is labelled “Affiliate link”; links without that label earn us nothing. Commissions never affect how villages are scored or ranked, or which booking sites we link to. The ranking uses only availability, the number of available properties, fit with your budget and your preferences, and each village card shows how its score adds up.
We don’t accept payment for placement, and there are no sponsored listings.
What we collect
AlpFinder has no accounts, sets no cookies of its own and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Your search (dates, number of guests, budget and preferences) is part of the page address. Our server uses it to rank villages and doesn’t save it.
Like most websites, our web server records basic access logs: your IP address, the time and the page address, which includes your search. We use these only to keep the site secure and working.
Other services your browser connects to
The map is drawn with map tiles from OpenFreeMap (external site, opens in a new tab), so your browser connects to their servers and they can see your IP address. The shading of the mountains comes from open elevation data hosted by Amazon Web Services (external site, opens in a new tab), so your browser connects to Amazon’s servers too.
When you follow a link to another site, such as a booking site or an accommodation’s own website, that site’s privacy policy applies. Booking sites use cookies to record which site referred you.
Where our information comes from
Properties, availability and prices shown in results are currently demo data and are not real. Real accommodation listings in French villages come from DATAtourisme (external site, opens in a new tab), published by local tourist offices, and from Atout France’s register of classified accommodation (external site, opens in a new tab), both under the Licence Ouverte. We locate register addresses with the Base Adresse Nationale (external site, opens in a new tab). Lift pass prices are entered by hand from ski areas’ published price lists or a magazine’s compilation of them, and each one links to its source.
